RH David's suggestion is a nice work around.  This is one of those areas where the feature set in RH allows us to deviate from the "Legacy Product" habits. 

I might also add that it is possible to save views of the grids in order to show only those items/rows with particular characteristics.  I would suggest considering the Administrators suggestion of how to physically separate the rows in history and then apply Davids suggestion of coding and view settings.  I know that sounds like a number of extra steps but the view portion and the user training portion is once!
