Here are the results of some testing I have done with autodialing from RedHorse in a Home office environment i.e. home phone lines, not a full TAPI compliant in-house phone system that you would find on a company site. For reference my phone service is with Comcast in the Chicago area.
1) Outbound autodial works fine with a simple USB modem connected to your phone line. I tested 2 types:
a) US Robotics 5637 USB modem on a x64 Windows 7 Pro machine, and a x86 XP Pro SP3 machine.
b) Zoom 3095 USB modem on the same machines.
Note 1: On the package, or on Web specs, the US Robotics does not list that it is compatible with x64 machines. However, the US Robotics website does have a driver for x64. This is what I used for the x64 machine. Some older models of US Robotics modems, either USB or internal card, have x64 drivers available, but some do not. Check the website before you buy.
Note 2: The Zoom modem literature does show compatibility with x64.
Note 3: The US Robotics device had the cleaner install, but once installed, both devices "worked" similarly well.
Note 4: "Worked" = both devices autodialed from within RedHorse from both machines, with the RedHorse pop-up windows you choose to enable. In-bound pop-ups did not work... as these require a full TAPI compliant piece of hardware i.e. as in a large company switchboard, but a simple USB modem does not accomodate.
Note 5: There is a small TAPI compliant device for the home user (cost about $400, Way2Call), but I did not try that device, as the inbound popups are not a game changer for me with caller ID service already on my phone.
If others in this forum have tried this last device, or are aware of others, I would ask that they post their experience to this thread .
Thank you.
